22nd Annual Limestone/Independence Day Celebration
Kid’s Fishing Contest
June 27, 2009
My name is Art Davis. Along with my wife Jacque and Jerry & Susan Smith, we put on a Kid’s Fishing Contest in Weeping Water, Nebraska during our annual Limestone/Independence Days celebration the last Saturday in June. Silver dollar prizes are awarded in several categories for largest, most, etc. fish.
To ensure that every participant had a good experience, seven years ago we also started handing out fishing and outdoor-related items to each participant, as we wanted to ensure that every child went home with a prize!
Through the generous donations of many people we’ve been successful so far. We are again looking for any small donations of any item(s) that could be used by these kids to further their enjoyment of fishing and the outdoors. Hooks, sinkers, line, lures, rods, reels, hats, outdoor books or videos, magazines… ANYTHING is greatly appreciated. It doesn’t have to be new either! Being able to receive a small prize, even if they didn’t catch a fish, has meant a lot to the kids. Our lake contains catfish, largemouth bass, crappie, blue gill & rainbow trout.
Our numbers of young children participating continue to grow each year. Six years ago we had 65 kids sign up, then 95, then 155! Also noticeable in growth is the number of grandparents, parents and other family members that continue to fish all summer and winter long with their children in our beautiful city lake! For that we’re also very thankful! Ice fishing has also become more & more popular with the kids over the past three years!
For any donation, your company’s name & web site address will appear in our event flyers, announced during the fishing contest, and also during the prize distribution. If we have a company sign/banner that you would want to provide, it will be hung at the lake during the contest, then also at the prize distribution. Later that evening we will again announce all the donors prior to the evening fireworks, where again the company banners will be on display. Any local media coverage, along with a Certificate of Thanks will also be sent shortly afterwards.
Myself, Jacque and Jerry are certified as Youth Fishing Instructors by the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission. Thank you very much for your consideration in assisting with our wonderful fishing contest. We can be contacted at:
